Weekly Updates, Monday, 29 Septebmer, 2025

Dear colleagues,

We are about to enter October and prepare for the important milestone we celebrate through our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences.

This week, we welcome Patrick Green, a technology expert, to CA. Patrick will be working with students, parents, and faculty to explore the ever-changing, fast-paced world of technology and its impact on learning and the everyday lives of our students.

On Wednesday, during professional learning time, we will hear more from Patrick. His session is primarily designed for teachers in Grade 2 and above; however, faculty from PreK/KA, KB, and Grade 1 are also welcome to attend. Alternatively, this time can be used by K–1 teams for planning and preparation.

The second half of the session will provide an opportunity to continue reflecting on the changes to our facilities as the Early Years program moves into the main building.

For those who have already decided to participate in the second half of Patrick’s session, we will provide access to the Padlet and floor plans. This will ensure that everyone has the opportunity to share ideas and suggestions before the renovation plans are finalized.

Thank you once again for welcoming parents into your classrooms during our parent workshop. As we introduced the focus and structure of our Elementary School learning and the IB PYP, the visit to the classrooms functioned as a wonderful provocation to the parent inquiry.

Finally, our first CA Wellbeing Dog, Apollo, begins service this week! Priyanka and Rose, who have completed handler training, are leading this progressive initiative in the Elementary School. Initially, Apollo will work with individual students and small groups of striving learners before extending his support into the broader classroom context. Priyanka and Rose will also share the parent communication and the CA Way poster, guiding how to approach Apollo. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to them with any questions about this exciting new addition to our community.

Warmly,

Katie, Erin, and Heikki

Weekly Update, Monday, 22 September, 2025

Dear Elementary Faculty,

We hope you had a chance to rest and recharge over the weekend. As we look ahead, this week promises to be a significant one for strengthening our partnership with our parent community. We are excited to launch our first workshops, beginning with a MAP overview led by Clover and Katie, followed by an Introduction to Learning in the Elementary School & IB PYP with Heikki and Erin on Thursday. We are also looking forward to enhancing our ‘Peek into Learning’ sessions by visiting a wider variety of classrooms, including our specialist classes. This will provide parents with a holistic view of the transdisciplinary connections our students are making with their units of inquiry every day.

Alongside these formal sessions, we continue to build connections through our digital tools. A huge congratulations is in order for so many of you who have been using the Toddle portfolio in such meaningful ways. We have been truly impressed to see how specialists and homerooms are capturing not just a final product, but the rich process of learning, giving parents a powerful window into their child's school experience. Your collective effort here is making a tremendous difference. A big thank you to Kae for working with all of us and our students to get this off the ground.

In our classrooms, it’s clear we are settling into the deeper rhythms of the school year, and with that comes an increase in behavioural challenges. This is a natural and expected shift, and it presents us with a valuable opportunity. We encourage you to use some of your community time to empower students, giving them a platform to share the issues that are arising and the agency to collaborate on finding their own solutions. As we guide our students, we will also focus on our own professional growth this Wednesday. Our session will focus on analyzing our data to identify how we can best support students during WIN time and regular instruction. Katie will also introduce us to coaching cycles as a powerful tool for our professional practice.

On a final note, please join us in officially welcoming Jolene Greer, who joined the school as a substitute teacher this past Friday. A sincere thank you to Heather, Layla, and everyone else who has already made her feel so welcome and supported.

Thank you for your dedication and collaboration. We are looking forward to a productive week with all of you.

Warmly,

The Elementary Leadership Team Katie, Heikki, & Erin
