Weekly Updates, Monday, 30 November 2020

Message from Heikki: The short beautiful moment of sunlight in -8 C.

Dear colleagues,

It may sound strange but the last month of the year is about to start on Tuesday. We have three weeks of learning left before the winter break. Let’s hope we can manage the spreading of the virus so that we can keep the school open and start our three weeks of holiday unaffected.

On Tuesday morning we have the final morning faculty meeting of 2020. On the agenda, we have the holiday assembly that will take place on the last day of school, Parent Coffee content and messages, Report Card writing updates and reminders, and some refreshments helping us to celebrate the incredibly smooth first semester of the school year.

On Wednesday we have a couple brief items before using the rest of the time for report card writing.

First, we will review the Distance Learning expectations from last spring, harvesting collectively ideas for improving the model and how to make the transition from in-class learning to distance learning as efficiently and smoothly as possible. Secondly, we will spend 10 minutes answering Student Support Survey questions, and finally, use the rest of the time for Report Card writing.

Let’s enjoy Extended Learning #7 on Monday through the excitement and enthusiasm of our wonderful students.

Have a great week!

Riana, Trevor, and Heikki

Weekly Updates, Monday, 12 October 2020

Dear colleagues,

Welcome to day 6 after day 9 on Friday!

This week will bring us a preparation session for Parent-Teacher Conferences, EAL parent coffee morning, and ES assembly. Once again, thank you to Ellen, Rose, Seth, Saiko, Noriko, and Erin for stepping up for the Teachers to Teachers sessions last week. The expertise and resourcefulness of our faculty were evident through the facilitation as well as the participation by all faculty members. We look forward to having further opportunities for sharing learning and engaging with all the expertise we have across the Elementary School.

This week’s online assembly will bring the always popular birthday video and Track Rats updates among many other things. Please, let Riana and Trevor know if you would like to share learning, student performances, or announcements in the assembly on Thursday 10:50 onwards. We will be sharing the link to the session later this week. Please, mute your microphones and connect your laptop to apple tv and speakers to enjoy the assembly.

As we are starting our 5th cycle we are also launching the last two weeks before the autumn holiday break.

Have a wonderful week!

Riana, Trevor, and Heikki
