Word Study Process re-scheduled

Dear colleagues,

As most people are very busy with the Exhibition and Conferences, Heikki and Kim decided to alter the Word Study process as follows:

This week: No Word Study meeting regarding Resources. Time can be used for collaborative planning, and preparing for conferences and Exhibition.

Next meeting May 11th:  Second Word Study session: Look at resources that support the philosophy in teaching literacy and to make a recommendation for the Leadership Team.

The third Word Study session about planning with the chosen resources and sharing ideas will take place in August 2016. It will function as a reminder and introduction to philosophy, resources and practices of the balanced literacy program in the Elementary School.

Please turn to Kim for further information about the Word Study.

Weekly Update, Monday, 25 April 2016

25 April
Dear colleagues,
After the successful Food & Fun Fair, we are heading towards the Golden Week. Teachers will be busy with the Student Led Conferences. We wish everyone best of luck with the final preparations. Also, this week is the PYP Exhibition! The pinnacle of the IB PYP in the Elementary School will give us yet another opportunity to celebrate what the IB PYP stands for and what it offers to our students. As always, we expect to be blown away by the development and maturity of the oldest ES students. We hope that everyone will have an opportunity to join the celebration of learning in grade 5.
Plans for the school year 16-17 are getting together. We will be working on finishing the calendar and schedule in the next few weeks. Additionally, the teaching teams are almost all sorted out. I am very excited to welcome Lynette to the 2nd-grade team and CA for one more year!
Please note that due to the class list compositions the EAL team, Learning Support Assistants and classroom assistants and their placements will be finalized in May.
Link to the Elementary School Teaching Team. We will inform the parents about the teaching teams later this year. To avoid any additional pressure on class list preparation, we ask you not to share the teaching teams with the parents yet. Let’s have a great week!

Weekly Update, Monday, 18 April

Dear colleagues,
We will start our week by a training session specifically designed for Japanese parents. The purpose of the training is to provide further information about the IB education in general as well as to answer some program specific questions. On Wednesday, we will explore the 16-17 PD further as well as share the Climate Survey Data. Additionally, we will hear an update on the status of the CA content standards and benchmarks. The Food and Fun Fair will be definitely the highlight of the week. We hope to see many of the faculty there. Enjoy, hopefully, a sunny and warm week!

Dear all amazing educators,
Thank you to all for making those important overseas orders by the deadline. We hope that the weather stays calm and allows us to get through the days this week. This week is not any different from the previous or the remaining nine weeks left. Thanks to your careful planning and relentless preparation students will be engaged and busy with learning in every classroom. Additionally, ELAC children will be enjoying their concert, and we will welcome APAC schools to CA in the whole school opening ceremony. Please keep in mind the following: Feedback on Playground Protocols and Guidelines, Requests for the facilities repairs and small updates, considering scheduling team, last SST referrals and Student Led Conferences scheduling. Have a wonderful week!

PYPX Update
Students are in the second week of the 'Making Sense' Phase. This week, they will focus on their reflection/ perspective/ responsibility question to then decide on their action. Here are the five categories action that we are using to help define what types of action they can take.
