Dear Colleagues,

Once again, huge congratulations to the class of 2023! It will be exciting to learn where these young minds find themselves in the future.

This week brings the last Tuesday morning faculty briefing. Among many other things, we will learn further details about the Elementary School renovation project, 23-24 teaching teams, and how we might need to prepare for the summer work in all grade levels.

Unfortunately, the early wet weather is challenging our Week in the Park plans. We have already postponed the grade 2 trip and carefully observing how the weather is changing during the week. 

We may have to find other ways to provide time for decluttering and packing if the weather decides to work against our plans. The Week in the Park plans are here to know who is available during the week.

On Wednesday, we will celebrate Tankyuu projects. Please, keep an eye out for further guidance from Clover.

Grade 5 will have their overnight trip on Thursday and Friday, which helps them to celebrate the end of Elementary School education as well as prepare for the numerous trips that will take place in the Middle School.

Finally, please note that MAP test results are already uploaded to the Power School for parents’ perusal. Clover will be sending a message to parents explaining how to read those individual results.

Weekly Updates, Monday, 22 May, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

The Friday assembly was a wonderful collection and capture of the Elementary School community and talents. Well done, everyone! As we welcome our Secondary School students and teachers back on campus and congratulate the grade 12 for finishing their exams, we are getting ready for the Elementary School renovation. It is hard to believe that it is finally happening and that we are returning to a wonderfully redesigned and inviting learning environment in August.

The park excursions organised by Hiroki and supervised by our colleagues and parents offer us a wonderful opportunity to make sure that we remove some of the old, unusable, and dated teaching materials possible, even pieces of furniture that don’t hinder the teaching and learning at this time of the year. Furthermore, if the time allows, it is a great opportunity to pack some of the material you already have taken full advantage of and will reuse next school year. The more we can prepare during this one day, the better off we will be in the last week when we have to use all our non-teaching time to pack everything. Please, mark your packed boxes with the grade level and your initials. The maintenance team is ready to come and pick things up at the end of the day. 

Finally, please note that the timeline is tight for the classroom renovations, including the removal of all furniture before many of the walls are torn down. Even if you may be around in Kobe after the school year ends, you will not have access to your classroom.

In addition to the park trips, this week is busy. On Tuesday, the Leadership Team gets together to plan the operational goals for school year 23-24; on Wednesday, Jon addresses the faculty in the annual Town-Hall meeting; on Thursday, Jon addresses the parent community; and on Saturday, the grade 12 students are celebrated in the main theatre.
