Dear colleagues,
After the rainy Saturday, the sunny Sunday made the weekend beautiful.

As the COVID-19 continues to shake particularly Japan and South-Korea recently, we are monitoring closely the
guidance and directive provided by the local authorities. Additionally, it is important to continue to remind, guide,
and hold the students accountable for following the necessary hygiene practices in class, lunchroom, and in the
playground. Also, please use every opportunity to ventilate the classrooms during recesses and specialist lessons by
opening doors and windows for a short while.  For further information, please, also check Jon’s email to the
community.

This week has two major foci: the spirit week run by the Student Council and the three-way-conferences.

We are looking forward to seeing everything the spirit week brings along. You can check out the
Spirit Week Schedule here. We wish you every success with the important three-way conferences. Parents are
looking forward to hearing and seeing what their children have learned so far and what is coming up for the
remainder of the year. Let’s have a successful week!

Weekly updates, Wednesday, 19 February, 2020

Dear colleagues,

We hope you had a restful and energizing long weekend. It felt that this was needed, given the long stretch after the
winter break, Grade 2 and others going down with influenza, and just a lot going on in all grades.

Congratulations to grade 4 for completing the very busy week including poetry cafe and the presentation extravaganza
during Thursday’s extended learning time.

Additionally, Ellen, Yoshiko, and Katie led another successful parent coffee on Wednesday and the extended
learning on Thursday was a busy day for all grades. As you may have read that the puppet show supporting grade
2 unit was postponed and quickly re-scheduled with the great help from Saiko. 

This short week will focus on 3-way conference prep on Wednesday. Before the conference preparation, we will
have a brief reflection and feedback collection time for our schedules including the current 9-day and supervision
schedule. Also, note that the Middle School ski trip is this week so it will be somewhat quieter in the school.

Just to keep everyone in the loop, most of the conferences and workshops scheduled for the spring have been
systematically canceled or postponed due to the impact of coronavirus. We are hoping that the Japanese Making
the PYP Happen will still go ahead in Osaka. Let’s keep up the good hygiene habits in the classrooms and let’s stay
healthy.
