Weekly Updates, Monday, 30 May, 2022

Dear colleagues,

The summer is here! We hope you enjoyed the beautiful and somewhat warm weather this weekend. Congratulations to our grade 12 students for completing their learning journey at Canadian Academy.

We will have our monthly faculty briefing on Tuesday 31 May already. We are hoping that the information shared will help us to get through the last two weeks of school.

Otherwise, the week looks very summery and sunny on most days. Naturally, the students react that the year is coming to an end and there is quite a buzz in the hallways, cafeteria, and the playground.

In order to prevent any major emotional bursts, please keep the routines going, reserve a sufficient amount of time for class meetings, and help the students transition between their classes as usual.

On Wednesday we celebrate this year’s Tankyuu. Please, follow instructions from Clover so that you know what is expected of you on that afternoon. Wednesday is also the deadline for handing out the comments to the proofreaders. Let Riana, Trevor, or Heikki know if you have any questions or concerns.

We finish the week with the one and only, Falcon Cup. We welcome 4 schools to our school fields to compete and have fun playing soccer. Please, note that the playground will be slightly less accessible due to the games. Feel free to bring your children to enjoy the games and cheer for the CA teams.

Enjoy the week!

Riana, Trevor, and Heikki

Weekly Updates, Monday, 23 May, 2022!

Dear colleagues,

Even the month of May seems flying by and the end of the school year is getting closer and closer.

We hope you are able to manage and pace yourself to stay calm and focused on the final lessons, writing reports, and wrapping up everything for summer.

We finish the marvelous 'week in the park' with grade 5 on Monday. Thank you to Hiroki for organizing this successful outing. Also, a big thank you to everyone in the ES who helped. Some of you have literally spent a week in the park. Furthermore, thank you to Sim and Emily for joining us. For those jumping on the bus on Monday, here is the Field Trip Info.

The penultimate Extended Learning (EL#18) is on Tuesday and on Wednesday we will spend the whole afternoon focusing on sharing class list proposals and transferring the current information about the students to the new teams. Please, make sure that you have all the appropriate student data on the spreadsheets prior to the meeting.

We hope the ES play performers will break a leg on Wednesday and Thursday. We are sure everyone is looking forward to having a wonderful closure for this exciting project.

Yoshiko and Heikki have invited parents to join a transitions meetings where we give suggestions on how the parents can prepare and support students who leave the school or country or just transition to a new grade level and start with new friends and teachers.

The EAL team will be conducting WIDA assessments with grade 5 students this week to start using the assessment tool more widely next school year. Saturday will finish this week with the wonderful Grade 12 graduation ceremony. Let’s hope that the weather will cooperate with us.

Enjoy the week!

Riana, Trevor, and Heikki
