5 Places To Visit During Golden Week - ZenMarket.jp - Japan ...

Dear colleagues,
Summer is on its way! If you believe the weather forecast for the end of this week. This week is our
week number eight of our successful distance learning. We will be hearing about the future regarding
school closure by Friday. The week ahead of us will be a normal distance learning week as we are not
conducting student-led conferences this school year. Thank you to all who shared their small success
stories from our distance learning journey in our last week’s faculty meeting. We have seen the flipgrid
taking over in many classes as a tool for increasing student interaction during asynchronous learning.

This week’s Wednesday meeting will be focusing on sharing learning from our distance learning
experiences and the weekend workshops on “reducing the distance in distance learning” as well as
reflecting on the small group live sessions and whole-group check-ins as well as the distance learning
schedule. Thank you for Kasumi and EAC for leading the Friday social connections and we are looking
forward to seeing many of you participating in the Quiz Night this Thursday.
Finally, we have included provisional plans for the Wednesday meetings from now until the end of the
school year.
Let’s have a great week!
Riana, Trevor, and Heikki

6 ways to make virtual meetings more efficient - Intcomex Cloud
Dear colleagues,
Week seven it is! We hope you have been able to find a less congested slot on the somewhat crowded
greenbelt, public parks, or trekking paths to enjoy outside life. Congratulations on the grade 5 team for
the successful parent session on PYPx on Friday. We are looking forward to experiencing a virtual PYP
Exhibition later in May.
We continue to be impressed with the quality of learning our students are engaged with every single day
and the professional determination shown by all faculty. We enjoy participating in your collaborative
planning sessions as it helps us to fully understand the process of designing of learning as well as support
the collaborative processes whenever we can. We will get through this eventually.

Thank you to all who already offered virtual socializing opportunities. We will continue to do so this week as well. Stay tuned.

Please note that specialists put together an initial slide where their check-in sessions are listed with times
and links to GoogleMeet. We were inspired by that schedule and Trevor designed a slide that would help
the parents to see the days when live sessions and check-ins are on. If you find it helpful, go ahead and
use it. If you have come up with a different way of communicating with parents about your sessions,
then just add the specialist slide alone. Check the schedule slides here.
This week we will meet on Wednesday at 2 pm. On the agenda, we are looking ahead to explore the
teaching teams for school year 20-21, guidelines for orders among other few things.
Let’s have a smooth running and inspiring week!
Riana, Trevor, and Heikki

Online learning can prepare students for a fast-changing future ...

Dear colleagues,
Welcome to week 6 of distance learning! We hope you had an opportunity to stay away from screens and get some
fresh air before the rain, wind, and cold spell on Sunday. This week we will launch the new model with a
combination of synchronous and asynchronous learning. We recognize that it will take effort, time, and adjustment
to make it all run smoothly and that there may be a need for small tweaks along the way. We appreciate your
patience and flexibility as we believe it will increase student engagement and accountability as well as reduces
the teachers’ time spent on writing feedback. Please note that we are still refraining using Zoom with the students
as we want to make sure that the privacy challenges flagged around Zoom are solved.
On Wednesday Heikki will meet with parents online during Virtual Parent Coffee and in the afternoon we will get
together as a faculty from 14:00 to 15:00. In our meeting, we will share some of our online teaching experiences,
discuss the opportunity for online Assembly, and share observations from parent coffee.
Keep up the positive spirit and spread it around with your colleagues and students whenever you can.
Let’s have a great week!
Riana, Trevor, and Heikki

Weekly Updates, Monday 6 April, 2020

Dear colleagues,
We hope you enjoyed the beautiful weekend and had an opportunity to stay away from screens. We would like to
thank you for all the feedback and suggestions you are planning to try out during the live teaching sessions this
week. This week we continue our quality distance learning and designing daily learning sessions. What makes this
somewhat challenging is that we are simultaneously living in the present and looking ahead to the unpredictable
future. We plan to continue this emergency model for a longer period of time and adding live teaching as the final
component of the program.
On Tuesday and Thursday, this week, all classroom teachers will have further opportunities to try out, hone, and
build expertise in live teaching. Finally, on Friday we are hoping to have the hybrid model of asynchronous and
synchronous teaching and learning finalized and it to be gradually implemented in the following weeks. This is of
course in case of not opening the school on the 13th.
We would like to ask you to continue to invite all three, Riana, Trevor and Heikki, to your daily collaborative
planning meetings by using Google Calendar invites. No need to add the meetings to the additional google
document anymore. We try to visit as many of the meetings as possible in order to keep our fingers on the pulse
regarding distance learning as well as your workload and wellbeing. Please follow this link to the provisional
proposal of the hybrid model for distance learning. We will need your feedback and suggestions regarding the
model in our Wednesday meeting.
Have a great week!
Riana, Trevor, and Heikki
