Weekly Update, Monday, 27 February 2023

Dear colleagues,

March is almost here! Time flies when you are having fun, and it truly has. Congratulations to the grade 5 team for their successful and well-attended PYP Exhibition workshop for grade 4 and 5 parents. Very enthusiastic and interactive parent session led by Gene, Kieran, and Erin.

The week starts with Grade 3 heading to Port Island for their skating trip, and the Extended Learning is all about Panto! Tuesday morning, the whole Elementary School gets together for our monthly assembly. On Wednesday, we will look into the Culture of Thinking and how thinking routines and exploring thinking as an element itself can profoundly impact and enhance student inquiry.

Pink shirt day, the day that celebrates our culture of kindness takes place on Thursday, 2 March, across the school. All faculty and students are invited to wear something pink on that day.

Throughout the week, you can enjoy the grades 1 and 2 art in the Atrium, and we will finish the week with yet another wonderful art and music experience on Friday.

Let’s have a wonderful week!

Erin, Trevor, and Heikki

Weekly Updates, Monday, 22 February, 2023

Dear colleagues,

Welcome back from the extended weekend to a short, 3-day week! We hope you have fully recovered from the conferences and are ready to look ahead to design learning to match the goals and aspirations explored and shared with parents and students last week.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, we will spend some time to reflect the first few weeks of 2023 to ensure that we design learning that is most impactful and responds to the diverse needs of our students.

The grade 5 team is already looking ahead toward the next reporting event, the PYP Exhibition. The PYP exhibition will provide the students in grade 5 an opportunity to continue the development of student agency, self-directedness, and inquiry skills. Although oldest in the Elementary School, the grade 5 students are not quite ready to run their inquiries independently, so we, as mentors and teachers, will need to provide the support they need to demonstrate a significant level of independence and ownership at the end of April.

The assembly rehearsal will start on Friday, so the MCs and student performances will be ready by Tuesday morning.

Have great 3 days!

Erin, Trevor, and Heikki
