Weekly Update, Monday, 30 October, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

Fall has begun to grace us with its vibrant colours and mild temperatures. It's a perfect time to return to school, hopefully with refreshed minds and bodies. As you know, Monday will still be without our wonderful students, providing us with valuable time to enhance our understanding of teaching literacy and language skills, as well as to plan and document our strategies.

We kindly request the homeroom teachers, assistants, Japanese language teachers, EAL, and Learning Support teams to join Matt Glover's workshop on Monday. Matt's work has been a source of inspiration for us in the past, and we are confident that it will continue to inspire us this week. We deeply appreciate everyone's flexibility and recognition of the importance and effectiveness of these focused professional development sessions, starting with Jen Bulson and now with Matt Glover.

Erin and Trevor will provide additional information to Samantha, Satsuki, Hiroki, Yoshiko, and Kae regarding Toddle and curriculum documentation. This presents a fantastic opportunity to fully engage our single-subject teachers in our planning, reflection, assessment, and parent communication processes. If you would like to attend any of Matt's sessions, please do not hesitate to let us know.

On Wednesday, the EAL team will offer everyone an opportunity to explore how best to support diverse language learners in their respective classes. This session will be followed by Matt Glover's workshop. Please note that this Wednesday, we have the PTA-organized Fall Festival, also known as Halloween in some parts of the world. Students will be dressed up for the occasion, and the party will take place on the ES playground immediately after school. Please feel free to briefly check-in if you have some time before our Wednesday learning sessions begin at 14:40.

Lastly, we extend a warm welcome back to Hiroki as he returns to school and express our gratitude to Zac for his support of the PE department.

Let's make the most of this week!

Warm regards, Erin, Trevor, and Heikki
