Weekly Updates, Monday, 27 May, 2019

Picture
Dear colleagues,
The last three weeks are underway. We are all getting a little bit tired as we are extremely busy with report card
writing, completing all the learning engagements, and getting ready for the end of the year procedures. Students
are also reacting to the closeness of the end, so routines and preparation will be key for ensuring a successful
finish of the school year. So please stick to the class routines as much as possible, keep the students focused on
learning, and keep on smiling.
Congratulations to Satsuki and grade 3 and 4 students for the successful and fun-filled concert on Friday. Also,
the grade 3 business unit was yet another exciting closure of the unit and the concert night. Thank you to Renee
for organizing the IB workshops with the help of many ES faculty members. Jen Cardon, Steve, Kris, Riana,
Trevor and Heikki participated in the IB PYP workshop that focused on exploring the opportunities created by
the increased flexibility in the program implementation. We worked on a draft action plan around student agency
for the school year 2019-2020. This draft proposal will be shared with faculty on 12 June for feedback. This
Wednesday we will get together as a whole school for Town Hall meeting with Jon and reflecting on Tankyuus.
On Thursday, Riana, Trevor, and Heikki will spend Thursday on planning the first weeks in August. On Sunday,
our Seniors (Gr 12) will celebrate their graduation.
Let’s have a great week!
Kim, Trevor, and Heikki

Image result for IB regional workshop
Dear Colleagues,
We trust the third run of the 9-day schedule is getting easier as the days go through. We had a successful Extended
Learning time on Thursday with many enthusiastic students, experimenting and collaborative teacher teams.
Well done everyone!
Last week we also had a transition meeting for the parents of kindergarten students. We had a walkthrough of
the classes, playground, and cafeteria with explanations how the future first graders will survive the start in the
“big” building as well as KB teachers’ sharing of how we prepare the students for the transition. We finished the
week with a Leadership Team retreat including the learning leaders. We were able to draft operational goals for
the school year 2019-2020 of which we will share in the near future.
This week will be busy with MAP’s testing and Jazz week. On Wednesday we will have parents joining a coffee
morning regarding transitions (country, school, grade level) and in the afternoon we have no PD or meetings as
the time is dedicated for Report Card writing.
Finally, on Friday IB regional workshops will be hosted at CA. Learning Leaders and Curriculum R&D team
will join Heikki to participate in Building for the Future - PYP workshop from Friday to Sunday.
Please, note that IB exams will finish on Thursday this week.
On Friday, we would like to ask you to start lunch at 12:20 so that we can empty the cafeteria by 12:45 for the IB
workshop participants’ lunch.
We would also like to wish all the grade three and four students good luck getting ready for their concert this
Friday. It will take place at 18:00 in the Auditorium. Thank you Satsuki for all the extra time and preparation to
get singers and musicians ready.
Let’s have a great week!
Kim, Trevor, and Heikki
