Weekly Updates, Monday 28 May, 2018

Dear colleagues,
Congratulations to Satsuki-san for completing the concerts for the school year. Like the exhibitions in the visual
arts, the music concerts are marvelous displays of student creativity and artistic skills. Also, the Grade 3 business
unit was successful making enough money to ensure a trip to Kidzania.
We have three weeks of busy learning ahead of us before the long-awaited break. Again, we remind us all to keep
the students busy learning until the very end to ensure that everyone can reach their fullest potential, as well as
achieve their learning goals. The structured learning will also help the students to stay out of conflicts and from
developing a false sense of freedom and lack of accountability.
The report card comments are due this week. We have extended the deadline for the comments until midnight of
this Wednesday. Wednesday Professional Learning time is dedicated to exploring the new program integration
time expectations and report card writing.  Let’s enjoy the warm and partially sunny week!

Dear colleagues,
This week the grade 3-5 students are busy with MAP testing. On Wednesday the classlist meetings will
continue as well as the report card writing. Please, have your class list data completed for the meetings.
We finish the week with the last ES concert of the year with grades 3 and 4. Please, check the Teaching Children

Student Agency and Flexible Learning Spaces

Dear Colleagues,

At last week's teachers teaching teachers session, we discussed student agency and flexible learning spaces. We shared ideas about learning engagements we are trying out in our classes, explored tools to facilitate these engagements, and brainstormed ideas of how to adapt learning spaces to support.

These ideas promoted voice, choice and ownership of the learning process.
Everyone is welcome to add to these ideas and there is guidance for your teams on how to apply for changes to the physical environment for your grade level.

Weekly Update, Monday 14 May, 2018

Dear colleagues,
Thank you to everyone who supported their colleagues through T2T sessions. We trust that those sessions
were helping us in thinking our work and professional growth through the lenses the cultural forces. This week we
will have a special guest in the Elementary School. Kim Fernandes, an illustrator of children’s books, will be
working from Monday to Wednesday with our students. Thank you for Celia for designing the schedule and the
actual workshops and everyone’s flexibility with your time to make it happen. On Wednesday, the KB parents meet
with KB and Gr 1 teachers to hear and discuss transitioning practices, expectations, and anticipations
regarding the KB children’s move from the family like ELAC to the main school building.
As a reminder, please note that the initial class list meetings are starting this week. Please, make sure that you
have completed the class list data sheets for the meetings.
Meeting venues:
KA -> KB meeting: Ellen’s classroom
Gr 1 ->Gr 2 meeting: Kris’ classroom
Gr 3 ->Gr 4 meeting: Jen W’s classroom

On Friday, we have the ES Assembly. Please, make sure that those students who are presenting are joining the
practice during Wednesday and Thursday lunch recesses.
Let’s hope the weather stays sunny and dry this week.

Have a good one!
