Learning Data Collection

 Dear Colleagues,

Our next data collection of running records and spelling inventories are due at the end of February for each learner. This is great timing to gather data for the three-way conferences and perhaps set learning goals based on that data with our learners.

The due date in the spreadsheet is the end of February 2022.

Spelling Inventory Reminders:

  • Primary Spelling Inventory G1-2

  • Elementary Spelling Inventory G3-5 (or G1-2 if needed)

  • Upper-Level Spelling Inventory G3-5

  • For anyone that tests out, please move to the next assessment. Eg. Primary moves to Elementary test

Running Record Reminders:

  • instructional level is recorded (take multiple running records if needed to find instructional level-conversion chart taped to each box)

  • refer to information files in the assessment box for reminders on scoring, coding, and finding instructional levels

  • see Learning Leaders if you require books outside of your grade level (Trevor A-N, Riana L-Z)

  • Fountas and Pinnell running record data and Spelling data will be collected for every student 3 times a year

  • Oct (Fiction), Feb (Non-Fiction), June (Fiction)

  • if you would like a refresher or have questions, please see your Learning Leader

Recording info:

Access this spreadsheet link to record running record instructional level and WTW spelling stage. Please do not add additional information into the cells, as it is exported to another system. However, feel free to make a copy of your grade level after completing the info if you wish to include your own data such as reading behaviours, MSV miscues and individual notes. New students should already be visible in the spreadsheet. If they are not, please add them to the bottom of your list.

Logistics:

  • let us know if you need a space reserved for taking running records

  • please ask EAL and LS teachers to help out

  • refrain from coaching into any of these testing materials as it interferes with validity

  • refer to this chart for expectations at this time of year

Due Dates:

Sep 2021 - Fiction

February 2022 - Non-Fiction

June 2022 - Fiction

Let us know if anything is amiss.

Weekly Updates, Monday 31January, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to February and Happy Spirit Week!

Congratulations once again to Satsuki, Tangala, Grades 3-5 students, and all the supporting students and colleagues for the wonderful art show and concert on Friday!

As you have all learned from Jon’s messages, we are affected by the covid spread mainly in the daycares. As difficult as it is to know where we are in the midst of it all, we have learned that it may be best to wait until you have symptoms before taking the antigen test, unless advised otherwise by the Health Office.

This week starts with Jen, Trevor, and Noriko being away due to Covid Protocol. We have been able to secure subs for most of the days and internal cover. However, we will keep you updated as the week reveals itself.

On Tuesday, the first of February, we will have a faculty briefing starting at 7:50. This will be mainly about covid updates and also information about the upcoming Teachers to Teachers session to mention a few.

Please, note that we will not serve beverages in our Tuesday morning meeting due to the covid situation.

We will first plan Extended Learning on Wednesday and then connect with our Tankyuu groups to engage with personal professional growth. We will serve beverages on Wednesday but will follow the previously used protocol to minimize the time with colleagues when not wearing a mask.

The spirit week will hopefully help us to keep our minds focused on positive things despite the covid concerns.

Let’s have a successful week!

Riana, Trevor, and Heikki

Weekly Updates, Monday, 24 January 2022

Dear Colleagues,

The duty rotation is finally ready!  Please, note there are some patterns but also some exceptions to the patterns. Please, feel free to rotate your position within your trios. If you notice that you are on duty in two places during the same week, make a comment on the duty document and we will try to fix it.

This week is full of excitement! We start getting ready for the next conferences with parents on Wednesday and then on Thursday morning, we will continue to educate parents about UDL and inclusive practices. On Thursday afternoon, we extend the learning for our students, and on Friday we are closing the week with the highly anticipated Art and Music Show!

In preparation for the Friday show, we ask everyone to be flexible as we cannot predict some of the complications that may come with the Omicron variant. The number of contractions and close contacts is growing, so let’s keep our fingers crossed and stay vigilant with our protocols to keep the children and teachers at school all week.

Please, note that on Wednesday, we want to make sure that we continue to pay attention to our well-being. Let’s keep that in mind as we approach mid-week. Please make suggestions for well-being activities and sign up here.

Let's enjoy this last full week of January!

Riana, Trevor, and Heikki
