Weekly Updates, Monday, 26 September 2022

Dear colleagues,

The sunny weekend was a nice change to past week filled with rain brought by the typhoons.

Despite of the shortness of the week, it felt it was busy with action. Thank you to all the presenters making the assembly smooth and filled with fun. During the weekend, CA hosted cross country running and 200 middle school and high school runners gathered for the meet.

This week grades 3, 4, and 5 will focus on MAP testing, which will be one of the data points we will be focusing on next week’s Wednesday learning. Please keep that in mind, and prepare by collecting the assessment data you may want to use for a data dialogue as well as determining the next steps of student learning and your teaching.

This Wednesday, we will have our Extended Learning session and afterwards, the Sea Change group will help us to focus on strategies for the well-being of adults in our community.

Weekly Updates, Tuesday 20 September, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome back from the long weekend to a short week. We hope that the cloudy but otherwise calm weekend+1 gave everyone an opportunity to take a deep breath and relax after the hectic first four weeks of the year.

Absences seem to continue to impact our days this week as well. Due to our own and generally stricter covid protocols, this is something that we haven’t had so much in the past couple of years. Ensuring that we have substitutes available is crucial, and we have found a few new substitutes who can help with future absences. We acknowledge the flexibility and adaptability everyone has shown in the past weeks as we have had larger numbers of sudden absences.

Hence, we ask that you communicate with Remi, Heikki, and your team about any known absences well in advance, complete ReadySub at your earliest convenience, and have sub-plans ready for any sudden changes in your health.

The past week was busy with WIDA testing for 3-5 EAL students and teachers; we also had a great parent workshop session and quick classroom visits as we shared some basic pillars about teaching and learning in an IB school. Clover led the launching of the collaborative Tankyuu processes, and we had an important opportunity to pause and think about our well-being and how and when to have conversations about our profession's energy sources and energy consumers.

This Wednesday Collaboration session includes reflecting on Back to School Night, reflecting on the first unit of learning (we will use the ManageBac to document the reflections as much as possible), and we will finish planning the Extended Learning sessions 3 and 4.

On Thursday, we will get together as the whole Elementary School to celebrate our community in our monthly assembly.

Let’s have a wonderful week!
