Weekly Update, Monday 1 May, 2017

Dear colleagues,
Summer has arrived in Japan! What a beautiful weekend we had and it looks like the weather will continue to be warm and sunny the three days of school and the long weekend ahead. Congratulations and thank you for the successful Exhibition, Student-Led Conferences, and art festival we concluded in the past week. We have observed only overwhelmingly positive reactions and feedback from parents, students, and colleagues. Our learning environment looks amazing and as usual, the students raised to the occasion throughout. Have a look at all the amazing art around us in the hallways and public spaces, and please, check out your colleagues’ classrooms, as they all speak loudly about the talent and creativity of students and teachers at CA. Very proud times for us all.

This Sunday another Tankyuu project became reality where a quite a large group of parents, students and teachers were working on the ELAC playground. The hard working group of volunteers designed and built flower beds, storages, boards with chalk paint, and of course the pallet hut. Thank you to Karen Hesterman for putting her Tankyuu into practice and organizing the event. We will have a grand opening of the hut very soon.

This week the IB Diploma exams will start today and finish on the 19th of May. Please, avoid bringing/letting the students to the atrium to ensure that the grade 12 students will have the optimum circumstances for performing well in their final IB challenge. Should it rain during our recess times, we will try to use other venues than atrium for the indoor recess for the next three weeks.

We meet on Tuesday morning at 7:50. On the agenda we have the end of year procedures, report card writing timeline and guidelines, as well as the use of spaces & classroom moves for 17-18.

Have a great week!

Weekly Update, Monday 24 April, 2017

Dear colleagues,
This week is a big week in the Elementary School. First, on Thursday, we can all celebrate the culminating process of Exhibition which is coming to its end. Our grade five students are to display the processes and outcomes of inquiry-based learning as defined by the IB Primary Years Programme. On Friday, the celebration of learning continues through Student-Led Conferences. We are hoping that our students will have the confidence, ownership, and enthusiasm to share their thinking, skills, and understanding with their parents. This week will also display the amazing art at CA. Please take the opportunity to explore the school and the art with the students. Finally, the creative connections will bring 16 art educators to our school on Friday and Saturday.

Have a great week!

Weekly Update, Monday, 17 April 2017

Dear colleagues,
Thank you for getting all those orders in on time. Check out the deadline and procedures for the local orders from the blog post. This week we can all enjoy the combined Pre-K - Grade 11 Art week. On Wednesday, we will share some of the Cultures of Thinking wisdom with parents as well as have a review with the ES faculty in the afternoon. Student-led-conferences and PYPX are two weeks away so everyone will be busy preparing for those. If you have any questions about the conferences please do not hesitate to turn to Kim, Trevor or Heikki. Let’s all enjoy the warm weather and hopefully more sunny days!
