Weekly Update, Monday, 1 April, 2019

Dear colleagues,
Happy April 1st to everyone! Welcome back to the last good stretch of learning of the school year 2018-2019.
Let’s hope everyone returns back to designing teaching and learning with a re-charged mind and body. We start
with four full and energy-filled weeks of active and engaged learning as well as preparation for the conferences
and the grade 5 exhibition before the Golden Week break. Those who will be joining Ron Ritchhart this weekend
will be charged with added resources for harnessing the classroom cultural forces towards deeper learning and
placing student thinking to the forefront of daily life in the classroom. On Tuesday, this week, we will meet as a
faculty to go through few running things, looking ahead of the school year, and offering shout outs to our
colleagues.
Please, note that we will have Japan International School Tech Group (JISTG) meeting at CA for job-like
purposes. You may have some visitors peeking into your classes towards the end of the week.
On Wednesday, we will get together as faculty and staff to celebrate O-hanami, the wonderful and highly
the anticipated arrival of Sakura!
We look seeing you all this week!
Kim, Trevor, and Heikki

Weekly Updates, Monday 18 March 2019

Dear colleagues,
Welcome to the last week of school in March! Thank you to Rob and his associates for organizing a successful
fundraising event on Friday. What a fun night out!
This week will be following for the first time the suggested lunch schedule of the pilot of which places the lunch
later than usual. Also, please note that the last period will finish at 15:25 (14:25 Wed). This week also snack is
suggested to be taking place after the outside break. Let’s try to follow the timings as strictly as possible so that
we can see how everything works alongside with the Secondary School who joins the pilot for the first time.
On Wednesday we will take time to plan for the extended learning block. Specialists, Japanese, and Student
Support team will have an opportunity either lead or join a grade level team on Friday. We can all start thinking
about an area of learning that we can explore deeper or for the first time.
On Friday the faculty is invited to join for lunch provided by the school to acknowledge the thinking and effort
going to the pilot, TGIF, and the beginning of the well-deserved spring break.
The IB mock exams will take place this week. This means that in case of indoor break we need to send the
students in the classrooms at 13:10 for the remainder of the recess. Also, we may want to avoid planning any
activities into the Atrium. You can find the IB exam schedule below.
Let’s have a wonderful week!
Kim, Trevor, and Heikki
