Note that 1) Use Fountas and Pinnell system 2) It is a non-fiction text and 3) every student is given the running
record.
Due Date into the system is March 1st (this info may be beneficial for 3-way conferences)
Please approach Karen, Kris or Kim if you have any questions about the kits, process, or how to use the
data.
Reminders:

  • instructional level is recorded (take multiple running records if needed to find instructional
level- conversion chart taped to each box)

  • refer to information files in assessment box for reminders on scoring, coding, and finding instructional levels
  • see Learning Leaders if you require books outside of your grade level (Trevor A-N, Kim L-Z)

Recording info:
Please access this database link to record running record instructional level and WTW spelling stage.
Please do not add additional information to the cells, as it is exported to another system. However feel
free to make a copy of your grade level after completing the info if you wish to include your own
data such as reading

Logistics:
  • let us know if you need a space reserved for taking running records
  • please ask EAL and LS teachers to help out
  • Refrain from coaching into any of these testing materials as it interferes with validity
It is possible students were moved back in levels due to rigour of comprehension required in new
assessment kits
can refer to chart for a benchmark at this time of year for your grade level
Fountas and Pinnell running record data and Spelling data will be collected for every student 3 times a
year Oct (Fiction), Feb (non-Fiction), May (Fiction).

International Baccalaureate Logo

Dear colleagues,
IB workshops are hosted at CA on May 24-26.

Leading the learning in PYP Schools
- RECOMMENDED FOR: Primary Years Programme (PYP) coordinators, school leaders and heads of school.
- A PYP leadership team evaluates its actions for improving learning and teaching and the well-being of its learning community. This workshop supports you to create the culture and conditions of a PYP school by considering the choices you make, the actions you take and the impact on student learning. You will examine the needs of the learner, learning and teaching, and your learning community to implement a transdisciplinary concept-based curriculum that has a powerful influence on student learning. - RECOMMENDED FOR: All Primary Years Programme (PYP) teachers (early years, primary years, new to PYP and with some experience of the PYP).
- This workshop invites you to inquire into your own teaching practices and reflect on how you can develop the capabilities of a PYP teacher. By exploring the PYP framework, you will connect how voice, choice and ownership are recognized and developed in all members of the IB community. You will be supported in your understanding of learning and teaching in a transdisciplinary, concept-driven curriculum and how to design this in your own school context.

Weekly Update, Monday 28 January, 2019

Dear colleagues,
The few snowflakes that found their way to Rokko Island this weekend indicate that we are in the middle of winter.
Therefore, please make sure you are suitably clothed for recess duties and travels through the corridors as it will
be staying pretty cold this week.
Once again, thank you all who opened their doors to the parent coffee participants in the past week. The parents are
always excited and impressed with what they experience during those visits. They can truly feel fortunate to
trust their children into your capable hands every single day. Thank you to everyone for the flexibility and
support towards absences and the different committee work. Let’s hope the flu is soon over so that we can
have the best possible teacher in every class every day. This week we will hear back from the POI review
team on Wednesday and on Thursday, we organize ourselves for the self-study C and D group meetings.
Other than that, the week seems fairly straight forward. Let’s stay warm!
Have a great week!
Kim, Trevor, and Heikki

Dear colleagues,
We hope you had a wonderful and restful weekend. This week we will get together in our assembly on Thursday.
Please, ensure that all performers are coming to the practices on Tuesday and Wednesday and let Heikki or Remi
know their plans if they haven’t done so yet. We are having a parent coffee on Wednesday and will most likely
visit classrooms about inquiry-based learning. Please, let Heikki know if you are happy to have parents in your
class and there is inquiry-based learning taking place between 9:10 - 9:35.
Have a good week!
