Dear Colleagues,
This 4-day weekend was definitely needed and we hope that you had the opportunity to make the most of the typical Japanese early spring weather with temperatures fluctuating between -1 and + 18. This week is also very different from a normal week for both students and us, as we have the students in our classes until midday Thursday. As we are preparing for the conferences, the focus is on reflecting on the learning of this semester. This very important reporting time offers all constituencies students, teachers, and parents opportunities to focus and commit their efforts to ensure successful learning in the remainder of the school year.
When finalizing your thinking and phrases for the conferences, please keep in mind that parents expect the teachers to take the lead, make certain evaluative judgment calls, and set tangible goals for learning.
Students contribute as they share some of their learning, and participate in the goal-setting process. In April, when we have the student-led conferences, we will let the students take the lead and celebrate the achievements and learning of the whole school year.
On Tuesday, we are sharing learning, celebrating birthdays, and learning about announcements in our February Assembly. Please, get your zoom and students ready right after the lunch recess.
This Wednesday, the first half is focusing on getting ready for the conferences. A great opportunity to check that your technology is all working, you have all the student work ready to go, and to discuss with your team any final agreements. In order to mentally prepare for the meeting, the afternoon is dedicated to well-being. Here you can find a document where you can invite or join groups for socially distanced activities.
Let’s have a successful week!
Riana, Trevor, and Heikki
