Weekly Updates, Monday, 16 October, 2023

Dear Colleagues,

The final week before the highly anticipated October break is ahead of us. We are sure that this week is super busy, as in addition to the normal teaching and planning, we need to be ready to share data and work samples and organize the classrooms and learning zones/hallways to be presentable for parents. 

This time is one of the most important reporting opportunities we have at CA, as we do not hand out report cards at this point. Conferences may be stressful at times, but they offer a great checkpoint for us as we plan instruction for the remainder of the school year. Parents are excited to have this rare opportunity to talk about their child’s learning and life at school and will expect to see assessment data and work samples in all areas of learning. The WIDA parent document is the only document that parents of EAL students receive to take home.

On Wednesday, we will spend time reflecting on the unit(s) we have either already finished or are about to finish. We will connect homeroom teachers with specialists to facilitate transdisciplinary planning and, hopefully, have a little time for a last-minute check-in of the conference spaces. Please note that the EAL team will use the Wednesday session to plan for the faculty EAL workshop after the break.
