Dear colleagues,
October is here! Thank you to everyone who supported us through the MAP testing in grades 3 - 5 last week. As we are approaching Wednesday, we hope to have plenty of data to explore through data dialogues. We are looking forward to seeing where the students are at and what progress they have been able to make since August.
We have noticed that there are some students whose emotions are running high, and they may end up taking risks or using their agency in a way that may cause conflicts, as well as time and energy-consuming conflict resolution meetings and communication between the students and their parents. There is nothing wrong with having conflict as they are normal developmental responses when students settle in and find their place in their communities. There is no better time to use class meetings to bring the students together, build relationships, discuss preventive measures, and address some ongoing issues that may add tension in class, hallways, and the playground. Furthermore, the increased number of students will also require us, adults, to continue to follow and remind over and over again the children about routines and protocols when transitioning and when we are supervising the students. We see everyone working really hard on this and wanted to give you all a big shout-out. Keep up the consistency as it will provide the foundation for success as the year progresses!
This week we will continue to have some small disruptions in classes. School photos will be one of them. Furthermore, some grade levels are participating in the annual health check in the Health Office. We finish the week with the wonderful Falcon Cup, bringing together a large number of grades 2 - 5 students from CA and six additional schools. As some teachers join the tournament as coaches, there are some special arrangements between the teachers to combine classes and get through the day. Let’s hope the weather stays dry on that day.
Have a great week!
