Weekly Updates, Monday, 3 April, 2023

Dear colleagues,

The warm weather will definitely bring a lot of smiles and energy into the classroom and playground. This would be an optimum time to remind the students about expectations related to the appropriate language, the inclusive nature of our school, and how to treat each other when playing invasion games like soccer, basketball, and baseball during breaks. Also, it is important to hold the students accountable for their actions by setting logical consequences.

Thank you to KB and the grade 3 teams for welcoming parents into the classroom to see UDL in practice. Parents were truly impressed with the self-directedness, choices, and agency students have in our classrooms. Congratulations to the grade 3 team for sharing of the artifacts and cultural connections with the ES students and grade 3 parents. Yet another excellent example of the high level of student engagement, varied representation of knowledge, and multiple means of communicating learning.

This week includes the April morning briefing on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we continue to look at data in preparation for student-led conferences at the end of this month and report card writing starting in early May. On Wednesday, we will remind ourselves about the purpose and processes related to the Student-Led conferences.

We will continue to have colleagues away this week due to illnesses, personal days, and also due to language policy work, R&D teamwork, and science curriculum review. Unfortunately, very few substitutes seem to be available until later this week. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding in advance.

The week will conclude with a Positive Parenting workshop on Friday morning. The extremely popular parent sessions will include three workshops led by Ellen Lowery, Yoshiko Brown, and Yuka Watanabe.

Let’s have a wonderful week
