Dear colleagues,
Welcome to the penultimate week of school in 2019. The holiday season is upon us and there are a number of
different ways grade levels acknowledge the start of the holiday. As many of the holiday parties are co-planned and
co-organized with parents, please, make sure that you keep them limited in time (1-2 periods max) and inclusive
and respectful of all cultural and spiritual approaches of celebrating/not celebrating the season.

Past week Ellen ran a very successful parent coffee morning session on Positive Discipline. There seemed to be a
great demand for a repeat as well as follow-up sessions. On Monday last week, the Behavior Intervention Team met
for the first time to establish a purpose and goal for our work. We will meet one more time before the winter break.

Kristyn Art wanted to extend her thanks to the elementary teachers, students and their families for coming to the
Commedia show and donating to George Dickerson School in South Africa. A total of 101,946 Yen was raised
which is amazing! This will be a huge help to the school and will aid them in getting many projects completed.

This week, alumni Emma Haruka Iwao will share her passion for technology with ES students and the greater CA
community. Thank you to Kae Shigeta for organizing her visit. On Wednesday, the Student Support Team will offer
sessions in supporting learning in the classroom. If you haven’t done so yet, please sign up for the sessions by
following the link to Student support sign up at your earliest convenience. The second part of the Wednesday
