Weekly Updates, Monday 5 March, 2018

Dear colleagues,
This was a wonderfully warm weekend! We hope you had an opportunity to spend some time outside to enjoy the beautiful weather. Once again, thank you to everyone who contributed, organized, and participated Pia Hansen’s
workshop. This workshop was much more than just a deep dive into the mathematics. It allowed us to
demonstrate how our students have learned so many skills in relation to number sense as well as the
craftsmanship of our skillful faculty.
Additionally, Pia’s modeling of lessons was rich in strategies and artful use of teacher language inviting
students to explore, think deeply, and stay engaged in learning mathematics for an extended period of time.
It was difficult, not to be inspired by all the lessons. Let’s hope we can put many of those ideas into
practice already this week onwards.
On Thursday, the grade 4 and 5 parents were introduced to the wonders of the PYP exhibition by the
grade 5 students and the teachers. In the evening of the same Thursday, the Headmaster’s Symposium
for the CA community generated a rich and lively conversation upon emergency preparedness,
child protection, and high school students’ alcohol use. This week we will meet as a faculty on Tuesday
morning. See the agenda below. On Wednesday we will finish the Student of Concern meetings.
Finally, would you like to discover your resourcefulness? On Wednesday afternoon you will have an
opportunity to do so. We are giving time for our Cognitive Coaches to practice coaching with interested
members of the faculty. This Saturday was the last session for our coaches who can now conduct a
cognitive coaching session in support of planning, reflection, and problem-solving.
And of course, do not forget the Red Carpet Gala on Saturday!

Let’s have a great week!
