Weekly Updates, Monday 15 April, 2019

Dear colleagues,
The weather may be finally changing for a better we hope as we are entering one of the most pleasant seasons in
Japan. Warm weather means a great deal of increase in energy with the students which both great and sometimes
more demanding. As you are planning your teaching and learning, it is wise to pay extra attention to clear routines
and consistent expectations. Children sense very quickly when we adults feel that the warmer weather and the
approaching end of school year warrant some exceptions. Emotions are always flying high this time of the year and
you may end up spending a lot of time in meeting seeking resolutions to conflicts.
Congratulations to ES students who participated in the play and of course Suki and Rose for skillful directing and
casting of the wonderful show on Friday and Saturday. Students seemingly enjoyed their characters.
Thank you to Jen White for hosting the Cultures of Thinking learning session for us visitors in her class. Jen and
Ron Ritchhart were able to elicit rich thinking in the engaged class. What a great opportunity for us to learn about
planning and executing a lesson focused on thinking and highlighting cultural forces.
Finally, thank you to Liz D, Kae-san, and grade 5 students for supporting the Parent Coffee Morning
demonstrating exceptional use of technology in supporting learning.
This Wednesday the self-study teams will get together to review the draft comments and overview to be ready
for the internal deadlines. On Thursday, with the leadership of Trevor, the next ES assembly including dances and
birthday videos will bring excitement to this week.
Let’s have a great warm week!
Kim, Trevor, and Heikki
