New Family Orientation 2019-20

Dear colleagues,

Here is the overview for the New Families Orientation this Wednesday 21st August.

On the Atrium
9:15 - Tables will be set up by grade-levels for registration and for water. (Yoshiko and Remi)
9:50 -  All specialists, LSAs, and classroom teachers gather in the Atrium.
9:50 - 10:05 New families arrive, sign in, receive student name tags, and are led by specialists or
LSA's to their grade level gathering point. Homeroom teachers stay at the gathering point.

Specialists, LSAs and Student Council members should introduce themselves when they meet a
family, before leading them to the designated grade level areas. Here are the grade level
assignments:
  • PreK-KA Kae, Rose, Satsuki (11 new students)
  • KB Emi, Jan, Tangala, Trevor (16 new students)
  • Gr 1 Saiko, Kaho, Amy (8, possibly 9 new students)
  • Gr 2 Ava (3 new students)
  • Gr 3 Kasumi, Noriko, Vallory (6 new students)
  • Gr 4 Seth, Celia,(5 new students)
  • Gr 5 Riana, Enoch  (3 new students) 
  • **40 families total

Move to the Classrooms
10:05: Specialists, LSAs and Homeroom teachers lead both parents and students to their grade
level classroom. To avoid families standing in the heat, one homeroom teacher can lead a group
down earlier to one of the homeroom classes.

At the Classrooms
10:10 - 10:20:  Parents and students receive a brief introduction of teachers, specialists, and LSAs
who happen to be in the classroom at that point.

PARENTS move to ELAC MPR
10:20 - 10:25 
Parents are asked to follow one of the specialists
/ students who will take the parents to ELAC
MPR. (Not all the parents/students are
comfortable with this so we can accommodate for
that.) Parents enjoy refreshments and chat.

10:30 - 10:50

G5 Helena short student council welcome to
parents.

PARENTS move to the Playground
10:50 Parents will move to the playground to pick
up their kids.
STUDENTS in the Classrooms
10:20 - 10:35: 
  • Introduction
  • Checking out other classrooms if gathered in one classroom
  • First-day protocols (shoes, bags, what to bring, how to get to the classroom, etc.
  • Playing a game or playing with toys (younger students) to break the ice if time

STUDENTS move to the Playground
10:40 - 10:50ish
PreK/KA and KB can be in their classrooms
or stay in the playground as the weather
permits.
G1-5 to the playground with intro and allowing
the students to explore. 
**In the event of rain, stay in the classes and
bring students to the front of the cafeteria for
10:50.

REUNITING PARENTS & STUDENTS
10:50ish 
PreK-KA Parents will check the classroom first and then go to the ELAC playground if they are not in
the classroom for pick-up.
G1-5 For fair weather, parents will pick-up their children on the playground. *For a rainy day please
wait in front of the cafeteria in the designated area from 10:50. Homeroom teachers stay with their
students until parents pick them up. 

10:55 New Parents sign-up for Cezars, ES Listening Conferences, etc. in the cafeteria.
