ES Leadership Team Planning Meeting Update, Friday 11 Oct, 2019

Dear colleagues,

Our ES Leadership meeting on Thursday was busy, productive and successful. We feel that we have a much better idea of the things of our foci and timeline for the year.
We started our session by looking at our results from DiSC and Strengthsfinder leadership assessment to better understand all the strengths and characteristics we individually bring to our team and to our jobs. In addition to our strengths, we also discussed the possible blind spots we all may have leading to possible misunderstandings of intentions and effort.

ES Action Plan for SY 19-20
We spend most of our time streamlining the ES Action Plan for this school year. We looked at the Action Plan items that faculty suggested last year, faculty feedback in June and discussed whether those items are still valid. We then looked at our Wednesday Learning time and other possibilities to give time to make sure that we can achieve on the action items within the year, and narrowed our focus on the following items:

  • Extended Learning Planning to develop meaningful and balanced routines for collaborative planning and rich learning opportunities for learners.
  • Collaborative Planning of units of inquiry within the context of the new POI
  • Community building, professionalism, and well-being through Adaptive School practices
  • Assessment purpose, development of rubrics, and how to effectively look at learning data (Research and Development of Learning Team)
  • Deepening our understanding of behavior intervention and revising the current protocol (Committee)
  • Curriculum writing in Japanese, Visual Arts, Music, and PE (Curriculum writing half or full days)
The two areas that we still need to focus on in our regular ES Leadership team meeting next week are the feedback and suggestions for duties and curriculum review for 20-21.

We will share more information about the processes and focus areas in our future meetings with all faculty, separate meetings with the R&D team, and the curriculum writing specialist teachers. However, we felt that it was important to share with faculty what we were able to accomplish during our meeting yesterday.

Have a lovely Friday and stay safe during the windy weekend!

Riana, Trevor, and Heikki
