Dear colleagues,
Welcome to start the fourth full week of school! This week starts with the day 9 Extended Learning afternoon session and then follows the normal schedule. Routines are being established and both students and parents are adapting well to the new organization of school days. ELAC morning protocols are smoother after we clarified the roles and responsibilities. Additionally, all new parents have lanyards, so we should expect the parents to wear them as they drop off their kids in PreK/KA and KB.
This week we will launch both Track Rats and the after school clubs. The afterschool club start may cause some confusion with regards to COVID-19 safety protocols and club management amongst the students, parents, and club leaders. In case the club takes place indoors students will exit the building by using the main stairs from the Atrium as most of the sliding doors will be locked at that time. Outdoor (School fields) club participants will be dismissed through the blue metal door between the main building and ELAC. Please note that if you need to visit the Health Office, the only entrance back inside the building is through the 1st and 2nd grade sliding door next to the Secondary School design and music building. However, a classroom key is required to open the sliding doors. Clubs that may take place in the ELAC building should use the normal exit routes and the bridge in case of needing to visit the Health Office. If you are a club leader please guide your students about the protocols and exit routes.
The past week gave us plenty of opportunities to practice our rainy day recess protocols. We are getting better at managing the students' energy and responding to their needs. We would recommend that each classroom teacher would create a menu of activities for those days when students are asked to be in the classroom during the lunch break. Please, avoid excessive use of iPads or laptops. Classroom teachers are not expected to be in the classroom during recess as supervision is done by the teachers on duty. If you have suggestions or ideas for improving the rainy day recess protocol, please let us know.
If you are receiving new students, please request a pack of blue cards from the ES office to accompany the new child home on their first day. Also, in case of an absence excused, it is very important that you write down the reason for the absence as soon as possible so that we can avoid any additional phone calls home from Remi-san. In case a parent emails you about the reason for absence, please forward that to Remi as well. We want to make sure that when we keep records and communicate about absences during the pandemic the information is accurate and records are kept in a timely manner.
Can you please fill in your Extended Learning locations and any additional planning documents to the Extending Learning Schedule so that in case of an emergency we know what the students are learning about and where they are located.
This week is concluded by a three-day-weekend of which we believe is offering a wonderful extended break from the always hectic start.
Let’s have a great week!
