Dear colleagues,
What a lovely weekend we had! We hope that everyone took the opportunity to breathe out and get something else in their minds during the long weekend. We start our four-day-week with the autumnal equinox that reminds us that day and night are the same lengths for a day and then the night will take over as we move towards winter. Bring on the candle season!
Thank you to Noriko-san for trying out online teaching of her class as she was staying home due to sickness in her family. With the help of Kae-san and the substitute teacher, we were able to practice a form of teaching we may have to get accustomed to when we need to take cautionary absences during the pandemic.
During this short week, we have some action planned including Principal Coffee Morning, Wednesday Learning, and a number of meetings. Our parent coffee will be offering a Peek into Learning under COVID-19 safety protocols. We will be visiting a number of classrooms with our iPads showing how learning takes place in the classrooms as we maintain physical distance, keep our masks on, and rooms ventilated i.e. doors and windows slightly open at all times. The purpose is to celebrate the wonderful learning experiences despite some of the limitations and protocols we have adapted to. Hence, showing videos to parents helps both us professionals and the students remember to stay consistent and true to our COVID-19 protocols.
In our Wednesday learning and collaboration time, we will continue our focus on learning by looking at the lenses we are helping us to define this year’s professional inquiry. The great news is that these lenses allow us to continue to focus on both the Less is More and the Deep Learning concepts we discussed last week. Furthermore, we will continue planning the next units in all subject areas on the following Wednesday where we can truly focus on shortening the units, creating targeted learning time, and ensuring that we have time and opportunities for student questions and reflections. The second part of tomorrow’s session will be dedicated to collaboration for the next Extended Learning.
Have a wonderful week!
Riana, Trevor, and Heikki
